Mira Mikati

In the current fashion landscape, Mira Mikati, a Lebanese designer based
in London, is seen as an alien. She is a former buyer who, a few years
ago, decided to fulfill her design desires with a precise idea in mind: to create
items with impeccable tailoring that were punctuated with fun and exhilarating details.

While she only imagined launching a capsule collection, her unique pop style
with acidulating colors and Kawaï references quickly conquered the public. Thus,
she created her own eponymous label that now includes true, complete collections.

Mira, what made you want to create your own label, when you used to be a buyer?

When I bought for my concept store, I realized that there were too many things that looked alike in fashion, fashion shows and presentations. I had something fun and positive in mind, but I couldn't find it. I decided to fill this need by launching my first collection.

And how would you describe Mira Mikati's style?

My designs are easy to wear, free, colorful, and different. I love mixing simple, androgynous shapes with powerful, entertaining graphic effects. But the most important thing for me remains the choice of fabrics, which I want to be elegant and of irreproachably high quality. This creates balance with my visual universe that doesn't take things too seriously.

What inspires you?

What inspires me is what makes me happy: art, traveling my children. The latter make me feel young because they push me to do completely crazy things, to get my adrenaline pumping. Their stories, their fears, their innocence and their good moods are truly my greatest sources of inspiration.

Do you think that fashion is
too serious today?

I especially think that everyone tries to do what their neighbor does.  Difference is the key to fashion, and we forget that these days. Designers must establish their   Own personal vision, marked by their story, told with words. I am a happy person  joyful  who doesn't take things too seriously, and that can be seen in my clothes. They are created for people who see life the same way I do.

Is there one person you wish to dress?

Jane Birkin, because her style is effortless and yet so elegant.

Finally, if you were asked to choose only one color, which one would it be?

Yellow has been my color ever since my earliest childhood.
